If you have ever been on a support call and were asked the last time you emptied your browser’s cache and thought… “WHAT?” — we understand! A web browser cache is a type of web browser memory on your computer. The web browser actually stores most of the content it downloads from the Internet to your hard drive. This is why you will hear people say “I can tell where you have been.” The web browser stores most of the content, images and files it downloads as well as a log of every where you have been. It leaves a trail like a snail.

The only downside to this “caching” is the rare occurrence of looking at an older version of a site. Generally; you will not suffer from problems like this on the ISN because when we update the ISN we instruct our servers to send you new copies. We do a great job staying ahead of the browsers; but occasionally we may ask you to empty your cache while on the phone with us!

In fact, occasionally emptying your cache is not a bad idea!

First, you need to know what web browser you have: Internet Explorer 6 or 7, FireFox 2 or 3, or Safari. If you are not sure the best way to find out is to click on Help on the menu and then About. The version number will be on the next screen. (NOTE: if you don’t see the normal menu you are used to seeing you are probably on Internet Explorer 7. Internet Explorer 7 hides its menu by default; to see the menu hit the ALT key on your keyboard and it will show up).

Here is how you empty the cache for each browser:

Internet Explorer 7

Internet Explorer 6

FireFox 3.X

FireFox 2.X

Safari 3.X
